Daisy,

By solvent I believe you mean catalyst. It is a mixture of Alcohol (Methanol or Ethanol) and Sodium Hydroxide. The resulting mixture is Methoxide. You will need to titrate your oil to determine the appropriate amount of NaOH to add to the alcohol.

i could not find the exact catalyst. i just know that it's an acid and alcohol and methanl is used as well. the site says alcohol is used first, then methanol, then acid as catalysts but it does not mention what kind of acid is used.
check the link below. you might be able to find more info than i did on that site.
