like, say if i want to go there tommorow night, do I have to call in advance to get a room, or are there any hotels where you don't have to call ahead?

I'd call ahead for a reservation. I work in a hotel in Las Vegas and although the summer is slow, there are still conventions and trade shows happening all the time.

You definitely shouldn't just show up. This is the best time of year for rates, but only if you call ahead. You don't want to end up calling around once you get there, that would waste your time and spoil your trip. A good site that has links directly to all the main hotels, on or off the Strip, is

Don't worry about calling late or early- they pretty much have operators around the clock.

It would depend on if there were any big conventions. There aren't any holidays right now so they should have plenty of vacancies, but if you want to get the best rate I would call ahead.
