It hurts when people stab you in the back. This is the primary reason I don't make "friends" at work. Unfortunately, I had to learn that the hard way. Sorry you did too. At least, now you know where you stand with these people and can make the appropriate decisions about how to handle them in the future - at arm's length. Good luck.

Walk up to them and ask them "why it is you feel so comfortable saying remarks when I am not here." Continue by saying, "I am
here now, have something to say?" I guarantee you they will say nothing and walk away.
