People in America are so prejudiced against gay people because they are told to be so by their church. Christian churches pick and choose the Bible passages that condemn gay people, while completely missing the bigger picture. Jesus preached love and understanding and acceptance, but hypocritical Chrisitans, which tend to dominate this country through the right-wing controlled media outlets, preach condemnation and hatred towards gay people.

Because people believe that homosexuality is a sin but yet never read the Romans "thou shall not judge" meaning that if they judge someone that when they get to "heaven" "god" will judge them.
Christians are hypocrites.
