In chess, kibitz means to chat or comment over a game being played.
Of course in a serious competitive match this is illegal
(if the players can hear it, that is. Usually commentary goes on in a separate room where masters lead the discussion and the public is allowed to participate or kibitzing goes incessantly on the internet over a professional match being transmitted life).
