So, I was talking to some guy at a local convinience store the other day. When we started talking politics, we had similar interests (Yes to gay marrage and adoptions, universal healthcare coverage, less perks for the wealthy, etc.) But when he said, "I wish we had John Kerry in office! Those moron Republicans would just wither up and die." I said, "Um, dude, hate to tell you this, but I'm a Republican." He started yelling at me, calling me a hate filled war monger, a puss-brained ***hole, KKK lover, gun nut (I thought that one was funny, I don't even own a gun), religeous zealot, pervert. He yelled at me for about a minute or so, until the store manager threatened to call the cops. The guy then threatened my life.
Did I deserve that, just because I happen to have conservative leanings and feel like the government doesn't have a right to say what I can and can not think or feel?

The thing is, I keep running into those types of closed minded individuals everywhere. Especially here. I remember the Reagan years and how polite the political climate was back then. Yeah, there were some ***heads, but you could debate anything and no one would start attacking your character or leveling threats at you. I'm just tired of this bullshit of "You're a baby-killer because you support Bush" or "You're a baby-killer because you support abortions (which I don't)". And the reason I'm a Republican has to do with the fact that they don't throw a bunch of slogans around... and that's all they do. I have a lot of Democrat friends that I could count on for anything, just as they can count on me to watch their backs. I just.... Where's the middle ground? There is none. The screamers on both sides don't want a middle ground. My question is, who's screaming for us trapped in the middle?

No one deserves to be treated badly. Please do not let this guy make you feel bad.

No, you didn't deserve it. The guy definitely shouldn't have freaked out like that. That's really over the top.

However, I'm not quite sure why you are Republican if that's how you feel on those issues. Why would you be in a party that's against all of those? The guy most likely thought you were a Democrat or liberal or independent, but definitely not Republican.

He probably just assumed you were a Democrat since you are pro gay marriage and adoption, universal healthcare and less perks for the wealthy. Those are typically Democratic views.

... you voted for Bush but you're for those issues?

what exactly do you think the Democratic party does anyway? Republicans believe universal health care is "the government intruding into your life"... that's about as much as the democrats want to intrude?

maybe you should stop believing the propaganda and look who's actually tapping your phone and bank account...

but it sounds like he over reacted... but it sounds like there is more to it than you are saying... people don't usually threaten your life over just these things...

Lets look at the situation

The Democrat was threatening to kill the Republican, that is why I am a Republican. There is nothing wrong with you, there is something wrong with the weird dude. I think it could be something phycological but that is scary.

Don't let one idiot spoil your day. He is only spouting what he
heard someone else say, without knowing the facts.
You will find that some uninformed people think you are either
a Nazi or KKK if you even hint that you are a Republican.

Politics is a volitable subject and, apparently, this dude takes that to heart. Should he have been so nutso? Nah.

I have both liberal and conservative view points. That's why I call myself an INDEPENDENT.

Eh, avoid politically obsessived people. They often carry too much bias to really understand the whole picture.

Yes, because I am betting this conversation never took place and you are making it up to make Democrats look bad.
