All our thoughts, memories and Personality,
Question: Would we still feel like ourselves, would we still be the same person we are today, and would we "live" forever.?

great question that i also think a lot about. mind transfer is a possible way of immortality i think but since we do not know where the ''soul'' or the ''thing'' is which makes you the person you are, the data in the chip might be not useful. some medical info about brain transplant can be useful right? wikipedia says: Whole-body transplant is similar in some ways to the idea of downloading consciousness promoted by Marvin Minsky and others with a mechanistic view of natural intelligence and an optimistic outlook regarding artificial intelligence. i think the key is whether or how you can download conscioussness. i think its a topic worth to discuss more and in detail

I don't think that there will be a chip that you can download your brain onto because the brain/thoughts are a natural process that cannot be emulated by technology... I know there are computers with personality but those were never real human beings in the first place.
I do know that a chip can be implanted under the skin that is used for tracking. They do that with pets already to identify them and perhaps one day that will become normal for people too.

Well, whether youre "yourself" or someone else. That same personality would be reflected on that chip. Personality is not a conscious descision but you can maneuver it (99% here believes in horoscope because its cliche for example). It all comes to the point if one gives a damn about life or not. Thats what were living now...i like many others, care too much of other people problem and sometimes i wish i could be like others and say: f/uck it, I had enough!
Same isnt it?

Well first you have to get consciousness transferred to an artificial source, as for living forever many people already do through memories and stories handed down now. So I guess yes you would, but if it is just stored and no one else knows of it later do you really live ?

Even better, upload info from a chip. The history of our ancestors, saved to us in unmolested form.

Downloading would be equally cool, and we would live as long as the data stays intact, just like we do now in our biological "chips"

No...cause then bill gates would find a way to legally own everyone's thoughts and ideas on microchip..then he would put us all in a robot and make us do his bidding..and would be become supream ruler of the Geek world... We would be stuck forever in factory's makeing Sports Illistrated Pull outs for him and forced to buy his products to stay alive...all while makeing $1.25 an hour.

its like asking if we cloned ourselfs would we be the same
im really not to sure but we could live forever
but is that really living at all
people would soon want to die
and the chip would have to get a bigger campacity each time
cus more memories the more u age
but it seems pretty tempting doesnt it

Cool to be able to live forever, so not cool for our brain to be inserted into a chip. Well, there are other ways for living forever if you're so interested...

No you would have gaps in the memories because you wouldnt want all memories on there.
You would just be a clone of yourself in a new body that remembered dying and then would continue on.

All it could be was a copy of the recorded information. Your brain is what is responsible for cognative skills, you're talking about storage. You would still cease to exist. All that your brain had recorded over time would "exist", but "you" could do nothing to add to that information "yourself".
