I don't think you should get an iPod.
If you are planning to get iPod nano, and have a PC, I recommend you get the Creative Zen V Plus. (Not Zen V) It has fm radio, fm radio recorder, voice recorder, and video playback. It costs the same, but supports more file formats.
If you are planning to get iPod video, and have a Windows XP Home/Pro/Media Center Edition, I recommend you purchase the Toshiba Gigabeat S. CNET says its a greater value. It has better navigation, sexier look, nice interface, nice screen, etc. It has My TV (good if you have MCE), My Radio, My Music, My Videos, and My Pictures. It costs the same as the iPod video, but has a lot of features, and supports more file formats than the iPod. It also takes subscription services like URGE music $14.95/month and Vongo movies $9.99/month, if you're into legal downloading.
If you wanted a shuffle, save some money to get a Zen V Plus because Flash MP3 Players are stupid. But if you really want a Flash MP3 Player, get a Dell DJ Ditty. It costs the same as the iPod but supports the important WMA and WMA DRM format.
Basically, I recommend Toshiba Gigabeat S.

I would go with the creative zen vision m:. Mainly because their software is much more user friendly than the iPods. it is less restrictive than apple products. The video is much better on the creative. also it looks cooler and has fm tuner and is playsforsure compatible.
Overall the creative beats ipod in functionality but the iPod beats it in style.

DUDE U PEOPLE ARE FREEAKIN STUPID. creative has muchmuch much much more experience with digital media than apple. so whay would ipod be better?? becuase well it isnt, ipods suck there audio sucks there picture and video qualtiy sucks. creative has there mp3 players and sound cards and speakers to back em what deos apple have to back em up? computers that are for basic tasks i mean come on the speakers on the imacs and ibooks and emacs suck i have explerience people and creative is the worlds leader in digital audio. SO now before u say... ipod for music and vision m for.... u got that backwards get ur damn facts straight and compare specs before u say something stupid.

Ipod gives a better overall user experiance. The only tricky side is that you have to buy stuff from iTunes store and it is in their properietory format.
Creative can play generic formats. But overall quality may not be better than ipod.
iPod has roughly 80% market share in such players and that tells something :)

well ipod has special only ipod stuff u now wut i mean and creative u can use normal stuff but if u don't care about money ipod is better but i would pick creative
