Why is it everytime you put your trust in someone, they let you down? Why does caring about people make you hurt so much?

It sounds like you are misunderstanding what trust is all about, as so many people do. Trust is NOT about someone else, trust is about you and trusting yourself to be able to handle whatever comes up. You can't ever control anyone elses actions, not for a minute and certainly not for a lifetime, the only control you have is over you and what you do about it. People don't come with pink slips and are always free to make their own choices, even if they are married, which makes it 'wrong' but they can still do it.

If they are letting you down maybe you are leaning too much. Maybe you are expecting too much from someone else. Caring about people is always a gamble and comes with the about the same odds of you ending up in the win column.

You know who is worth investing yourself in by their actions, never their words. Anyone can talk a good game and nothing is easier but if what they say doesn't match what they do you know right away and undeniably that this isn't someone to get too involved with. You can deal with anyone as long as you KNOW what you are dealing with. Peoples actions will always give them away. This, of course, takes time and observation so never rush in to anything. Be careful not to fall in to that thing where you try to make things fit in to the picture you want to see.

i am sorry that you feel that way...surely there is someone that you trust now that would never let you down...caring for people always hurts...when you let anyone close to you ..you run the risk of being hurt....however not letting people close to you is lonely...

there is no right answer to when to know to trust someone...it is just a gut feeling....how many people trust you...think about if you have betrayed them...caring is a risk...life is bigger risk...

good luck to you...

Nothing is worse than getting hurt by someone you trust but don't let it get you down because you may not realize it but someone somewhere has learned from your kindness and your good heart and one day you will be rewarded.

Try allowing people to build your trust and confidence. Or perhaps lower your expectations? Don't always assume everything and take things in stride, but guard the things that are most important and enjoy life!
