have a black border all round my monitor,preventing full access to the screen,how do i get rid of this ,have no manual to help

You will need to go into the monitors controls and adjust the horizontal and vertical size There should be buttons on the front of the monitor or underneath a panel on the front of the monior to allow you adjustment, also go into the control panel, display settings, advanced, monitor and adjust screen refresh rate. on your monitor you have an adjustment control usually in the centre at the bottom adjust the size with this it's just a case of pressing buttons and reading the instructions

Are you saying that when you open a window, it does not cover the full screen even after you mazimize it? If this is so, can't you run your cursor over one of the four corners to get a two-headed diagonal arrow - then drag it out?
