What the Cubs do better than any business in the world is sell hope ... that next year will be the year. And because of all the tourists who just want to see the park, real fans have to lineup to buy tickets to any games they really want to see (or think they want to see) in December and January. After finding out the team sucks (as eventually happens just about every year), they then must decide to still go to the game, eat the tickets (at an average of 40 bucks a pop) or try to sell them on ebay (often to fans of the visiting team). The end result is the same ... sell out after sell out and no real reason for management to actually put a winner on the field.

The Cubs have loyal fans because we are not fair weather fans. We don't jump on the bandwagon when they are winning nor do we jump off when they are losing. I am 49 years old and have been a Cubs fan ever since I can remember. Yes I remember the 1969 Cubs, Leo The Lip, Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins, Ron Santo, Billy Williams and so on. My oldest son, now 28 went to his first Cubs game when he was 4 years old and was hooked on baseball and the Cubs from that day on. There is something magical about Wrigley Field that you just don't feel at any other baseball park; and I have been to many other ball parks.
With your attitude I am glad that you are not a Cubs fan. You can't even ask the question properly! Your question should read "Why are Chicago Cubs fans such loyal fans" or "Why do the Chicago Cubs have such loyal fans" but NOT "why are Chicago Cubs have such loyal fans?" There is nothing grammatically correct about that question!

Most of the people showing up at Wrigley Field aren't really Cubs fans. They are there for the tourist experience at the ballpark and to hang out in the bars after the game. They don't care if the team sucks. They are there to see and be seen. It's more about popularity and hanging with the beautiful people than it is about baseball.
I have co-workers and friends who are true Cubs fans, and they've given up on the season. They are very fed up with ownership, and they are not going to the games. However, such a boycott has no effect because the Tribune Company can always find trendy sheep and corporate types to fill Wrigley Field.
Fortunately for me, I'm a third-generation White Sox fan, and I don't have to worry about all that garbage. Go Sox!

I've come to believe Cubs FANS don't even care whether they win or not. I've been to Wrigley a coulple of times, and Wrigley is a party. It's like the game is just...........I don't know..........something to look at while you're getting $hit-faced. I don't drink, and I'm not a Cubs fan, but Wrigley sucks you in. Plus, it sits in the middle of a neighborhood! It's like where you would take your kids on Saturday mornings for their t-ball games. It's like the community park. I'll give them credit, the history of losing there has almost become part of the draw. But if you're a baseball history fan, it's a must-visit park. There's a reason they call it "The Friendly Confines". That's what it is. It's a friendly, fun environment. Makes you forget your team sucks.

i've been a cubs fan since i was little...and i think that's how a lot of other people are. if you really care about your team, you'll stand by them, even if they suck...and cubs fans are really care free and love to have a good time. i always have a great time at wrigley field, even if the cubs end up losing. cubs fans just have a more fun and outgoing personality, which is more than i can say about asshole white sox fans.

FIrst some of the people that go to the game aren't Cub fans. they go just to be there.
Being a Cubs fan is like having kids. Somedays you get mad at them and can't stand them. but at the end of the day. you still love them the same way you loved them when they were born.

Cub fans are more of a family unit, unbreakable. Just because your family has a few bad times, do you turn your back on them? If so, you'd suck as a Cub's fan anyhow.
