make sure they are plugged into the right place, plugged into a power outlet and the speakers and turned on and turned up. If you still dont have sound, I see two possibilities, no drivers installed or you have a dedicated sound card and are plugging into mobo sound card jack.
Good luck.

Did you connect the speakers while the computer was still on? Plug and Play only works if you turn off the computer, connect the speakers then turn it back on. Also, make sure your sound card is okay. Go to
Start/control Panel/System/ Hardware/Device Manager and make sure there are no "!" exclamation points next to sound card and if there is you need to uninstall and reinstall this component. Also, if you need drivers, check out the maker of the speakers and get the drivers from there.

go to control panel and then to sounds and audio devices
then check whether device volume bar is highlighted or not.if cant drag the bar to increase the sound, then we can tell that sound drivers or not installed.Install them correctly.
otherwise if the bar,can be dragged, drivers are installed, you must go for new soundcard.
check whether all connections are correct
