You "sometimes" get blank? empty behavior? I wish I knew what you meant. I am hesitant to give feedback with any real conviction here because I'm not sure what you're saying.

The key word that is sticking out for me is the "sometimes" which would indicate that its not an ongoing issue? There are sometimes when he tunes you out? or is unresponsive?

That could mean a few things... He could have a short attention span.... He could need to develop stronger socialization skills... Make sure he has plenty of interaction with other children his age. It could be that he's very intelligent and sometimes just gets bored with you and chooses to focus on something he'd rather focus on at that given moment.

When in doubt consult his doctor and ask to be referred to a child development specialist.

Take him to a child psychiatrist for him to be tested. Sounds like he's a special child if you're getting blank behaviour from him.

AYou know. I really miss when my kids were young and I had a really good time with them. Maybe I kind of grew up with them; none the less,; If you have a child, no matter what you think there restrictions are, do the best by them, don't limit them. do your best to make them O.K. with todays world.

What ever you do, DO NOT spank children if you getting difficult behaviour.

But this does not sound like normal behaviour anyway; so I would have a talk to a psychologist and see what they say.
They cannot read his mind, so try asking him what is wrong and having a chat about this.

Children of that age do not usually give 'blank, empty behavior'. You should seek professional opinion.
