It would be a good idea to ask people you know who their doctor's are and what they like/don't like about them. Choose one that sounds right for you - maybe a female doc if you are more comfortable with that - or even a nurse practitioner. Check with your insurance provider also - to make sure that you choose one within your plan- then pick up the phone and make an appointment for a routine physical. It is so much easier to establish a relationship with a doctor or doctor's office before you get sick. Once you are established with a doctor or group, it will be easier and less stressful for you when/if you should get a serious illness. Imagine a bout with pneumonia and having to go to some strange doctor that you don't know or trust? In order to get started on this - set a deadline for yourself - I will call on August 1st!!! Also, if you are insured - you are paying into a plan and not taking advantage of it. Money out the window. So, OK repeat after me: I will pick up the phone and make an appointment for a routine physical on August 1st. :)
if you can do it so can I - I need a dentist & need to make an appointment 0 i've been procrastinating. So August 1 Tuesday we make that call.

maybe it is just cause you haven't been in 25 years and don't know what to expect realistically anymore. go and have someone go with you and let the doc know how nervous it makes you to be there, a good doc will make you feel comfortable. besides a doc visit is a lot less scary then an e r visit and somethings like certain cancers don't show major symptoms until you are in big trouble

You're problem is you don't want to go and don't care enough about your general health or your loving family to go and take better care of yourself. That's a selfish thing to do. What the heck is 30 minutes of a physical going to hurt? You afraid they'll find something? Get your crazy butt to the doctor and stop all of this nonsence before it's too late.

You need to be seen, is the problem
Your mom is right, there are horror stories out there because people weren't seen for 25 years, and they had something like skin cancer wrong with them, but it didn't make them sick.
Why be scared of docs? They don't bite...
If you are afraid of what they may find, that's different... but my guess is you are due for a lot of tests, etc...
Just to make sure you are healthy
Don't be afraid... Please just go in and talk to one...for your own sake.

Go see a holistic doc or a doc that believes in herbal meds and natural cures. Someone needs to order some bloodwork just to be safe.

Is it the doctor you're afraid of, or are you afraid that the doctor will find something terrible, such as cancer? Perhaps figuring out the real cause of your fear will help you conquer it.

your problem is you do not have any problem that would make you visit a doctor. this is not a problem of course, unless you want to visit doctors with no reason. this is a problem that will cost you a lot of money to keep on having if you start visiting doctors.next
