Marshall Tucker Band - Fire on the Mountain

took my fam'ly away from my Carolina home
Had dreams about the west and started to roam
six long months on a dust covered trail
they say heaven's at the end but so far it's been hell

chorus:
and there's fire on the mountain
lightning in the air
gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there

It's called "Fire on the Mountain", and it was originally recorded by the Marshall Tucker Band, back in 1975, and released on their "Searchin' For a Rainbow" album. Fellow country music star Charlie Daniels played fiddle on the album. Daniels recorded an album by this name, but it did not include a single with this title - and the lyrics are definitely (see below) from the Marshall Tucker Band hit.

took my fam'ly away from my Carolina home
Had dreams about the west and started to roam
six long months on a dust covered trail
they say heaven's at the end but so far it's been hell

chorus:
and there's fire on the mountain
lightning in the air
gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there

We were diggin and siftin from 5 to 5
sellin everything we found just to stay alive
gold flowed free like the whiskey in the bars
sinnin' was the big thing, lord and satan was his star

and there's fire on the mountain
lightning in the air
gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there

dance hall girls were the evenin' treat
empty cartridges and blood lined the gutters of the street
men were shot down for the sake of fun
or just to hear the noise of their forty four guns

and there's fire on the mountain
lightning in the air
gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there

Now my widow she weeps by my grave
tears flow free for her man she couldn't save
shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame
all for a useless and no good worhtless claim

and there's fire on the mountain
lightning in the air
gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there

FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN
Marshall Tucker Band

Took my fam'ly away from our Carolina home
Had dreams about the west and started to roam
Six long months on a dust covered trail
They say heaven's at the end
But so far it's been hell

And there's fire on the mountain
Lightening in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there

We were digging and shifting from five to five
Selling ev'rything we found just to stay alive
Gold flowed free like the whiskey in the bars
Sinning was the big thin Lord
And satan was the star

And there's fire on the mountain
Lightening in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there

Dance hall girls were the evening treat
Empty cartridges and blood lined the gutters of the street
Men were shot down for the sake of fun
Or just to hear the noise of their 44 guns

And there's fire on the mountain
Lightening in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there

Now my widow, she weeps by my grave
Tears flow free for her man she couldn't save
Shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame
All for a useless and no good worthless claim

And there's fire on the mountain
Lightening in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there

Fire on the Mountain by Marshall Tucker Band (I think that's who sings it...could be Charlie Daniels Band, or Confederate Railroad...someone my mom listens to...)

If I"m not mistaken, it's actually called "Fire on the Mountain" and the Marshall Tucker Band did it originally. (I don't know if someone else might be doing it now)
