It's a great way to build up leg strength - BUT - be warned. The uneven surface can be very hard on your knees. If you can find a reletivly flat stretch that dosn't sink too much, it is well worth a shot. But running on dunes or very loose sand is a gamble. Get an old pair of shoes and run in the wet, muddy areas close to the sea. You get some of the extra resistance, and it is easier on your body in the long term.

I've never thought about, but it seems as if running in the sand would be a good work out and very helpful.

Do you play basketball on the sand? It will help you jump higher.

It gives you a different kind of resistance, with less impact. It also helps you improve ankle stability because the surface isn't firm.

Its great. Builds up your leg muscles and if you do it enough, increases endurance. Go for it.
