Doctor's have heard it all before. Don't be nervous to talk to your doctor.

ask for an appointment with a female doctor or nurse practitioner.
she will ask you questions. take your time and look at her when you answer. if you feel funny about your parent being in there, hesitate on the first answer and maybe the person asking the questions will ask mom to wait outside for a few minutes...remember the person asking the questions does this every day and is a professional and knows that you are nervous and it is ok. and you do not sound stupid...I stayed with my daughters at this age for the first discussion in the doctors office and they just took their time and answered truthfully and carefully...they knew the doctor cannot treat them if she does not know the truth.

It isn't stupid... it's natural.
Most girls that come in to the peds office, or any physicians office are uncomfortable talking about their private matters.
The fact is, that we that are on the physician side of the discussion, honestly aren't judging you, but rather listening for anything abnormal so that we can fix any problems that you may have.
Think of going in and talking to your doc as a type of puzzle. If you want, switch to a female pediatrician if that makes you feel better about it. You need to feel like you can talk about anything with the doc. If you want you can ask if your parents can leave the room.... You are always welcome to tell your doc you are nervous.. we understand... we too were young, and some of us not so long ago. :)
I like joking around with my teenage patients that I encounter to make them feel more at home with the questions we have to ask to keep you healthy. You are our puzzles, we want to keep you whole, and healthy.... we just want you to be able to trust us and tell us anything that is bothering you, or what doesn't seem right. Your trust is the key to finding out what exactly is wrong or right, and keeping you healthy... :)

It's not stupid at all! Maybe you should try to talk to your mom or close girl friends about things that concern you before you head to the doctor, then you will have already discussed them before and will not be so nervous. And as always, doctors have heard just about everything...you can't shock them.

If you're uncomfortable talking to a pediatrician, ask your mom if you can go to a gynecologist. They specialize in treating women and have heard it all. I'd recommend seeing a woman as it will probably make you more comfortable. It's your body that you're talking about and your health that you're trying to maintain. It's nothing to be nervous about.

It's not stupid! There's nothing to be nervous about. EVERY girl has it. It's not like your doctor has never seen it or heard about it. However, you might want to tell your mom... get you to an OBGYN doctor. You'll probably feel more comfortable talking to him/her, since that's all they do... take care of women and their reproductive system.

you are a teenager and therefore feel as though your questions might be too embarrassing to share with your doctor (which you have probably been seeing since you were a young girl. Just let your doctor know that you are wanting to ask a question concerning your mestrual cycle. if your doctor is professional enough, he/ she will not make you feel uncomfortable about your inquiry. good luck

that happens to me to but I just relax and explain everything even though it might still seem a little embarising . I thought about it and doctors are suppose to be there and listen to you and your problems so it really shouldnt matter they get paid to do it and there proffesionals. im prettty sure they mind anything you say to them
