That would depend greatly on what an individual guy deems a necessity. Aside from the big three: air, water & food, each one of us has a different set of criteria for what is essential. For some it is sports, others booze, and still others consider sex an absolute must. Companionship can be a healthy thing but you can become addicted to people and that is not good.

The thing is, if you feel the need for companionship from the opposite sex then you should seek it out in the form of friendship. If you are ok without it- do not let self-serving "friends" and family push you into relationships you neither want or need.

No, and a guy isn't a necessity in a girl's life, either. It's a necessity to have both genders (or else we'd go extinct), but whether you decide to spend the rest of your life with someone of the opposite gender, the same gender, or no one at all is completely up to you.

In so far as children between the two are concerned. But, your really asking "are there necessities?" My answer to that is, everything can be used that way, but then the question becomes "do you want to go on?" If you decide not to, necessities do not exist. "can we get to a form that requires no necessities, and still "go on""? I don't know, but this is philosophy.

The right woman at the right time with the right man transcends necessity.

And only those who understand they are incomplete as self contained entities fully appreciate the completing of the puzzle.

Choosing not to seek a partner can be useful for a spiritual person. It depends though.

Without a doubt it complicates things and then you get caught up in the world.

However much I've chosen this, it remains my greatest attachment. Perhaps because of this, I should pass through it rather than avoid being single.

Of course not as we can simply look to society for many instances of single men, gay men, priests and others who get by without one.
