That would be Davey Allision.This was a huge loss to all NASCAR fans.Davey was a big fan favorite at the time of his death and was heading towards superstar status He was coming to Talladega Super Speedway to observe Neal Bonnets son testing a car.Davey was flying his own helicopter and crashed upon landing,he had actually touched down but for some reason it took off again at an extreme angle and immediately crashed.I live within just a few miles of the track,I toured the track a month or so ago they still point out the spot in the infield where he crashed.Davey was to me what Earnhardt was to his fans,after Davey's death I wasn't sure I would still be able to enjoy NASCAR.but as time moved on I chose new drivers to pull for but Davey's memory will always be dear to my heart !!

Davy died in a bizarre crash shortly after take-off from the infield at Talledega in 1993. The crash was from a very low altitude and Davey died of head injuries. His only passenger was Stock car legend and fellow "Alabama Gang" member Red Farmer who was injured but not seriously.
Davey had recently bought the helicopter and had very limited experience as it's pilot. Pilot error has been generally accepted as the cause of the crash. While Davey was an experienced pilot he didn't have many hours in this particular aircraft.
