I spend a lot of time with him, and he has free roam of my room, I hardly ever lock him in his cage, and he always seems happy to see me, so I can only think he's a pretty happy guy... but I keep reading all this stuff about them needing a bunny companion. But do you really think he knows what he's missing? Should I really get him another bunny?

Rabbits are very fond of companionship. If you're able to be home pretty much all day, then you might be able to get by without one. But as communal, and generally social creatures, they tend to like to be with one another. Rabbits who are with companions over being alone tend to be happier and healthier, as they get more exercise and enjoy play.

In essence, it's up to you. But I would reccomend getting another. Two rabbits are always better than one.

Hmm I think your little guy seems pretty happy the way he is. Rabbits are not social creatures and can be territorial if they arent neutered. Just do not get another male if you do get another one because they WILL fight and one of them WILL need immediate medical help at the end of it, even males from the same litter and have been together their whole lives will do this. If you have a boy bunny get a girl but ONLY if they are both neutered or within a year your going to have a lot more bunnies then you can handle. Female bunnies are usually good with other rabbits if they've been together all their lives but you seem to be doing alright so far so i wouldnt recommend getting another. Check out www.rabbits.org and they'll tell you anything you need to know about having a bunny.

I had a bunny too and he is a guy. I do let him roam about in the house and I had read that the companion of a rabbit is uncmoparable with human.

I was thinking of adopting another bunny for my guy too! Guinea Pigs are good companion too!

If U are not having the pair for breeding purpose, the bcuk have to be sterilised and the doe to be spayed. This is good for them as they tend to be agressive when they are horny!

In the meantime, it is good to read some books about rabbits in the library or go to the animals shelter for a bunny help!

I've heard that boy bunnies can be pretty territorial. They might fight with another boy bunny.

They tend to get along with cats and dogs though. My rabbit *loves* my dog (50 pounds) and tries to hump him when he's not standing up. The dog doesn't think much of that, but the rabbit is oblivious to the dog's warning growls.

oh - and randis_egg's answer is wrong. Bunnies live 5-7 years. My 5 year old healthy bunny is a testament to the veracity of that.

I have had pet buns for years now..I just buried one..sigh..however..if you spend alot of time with your buns there is no need for a mate..I have another buns that is about 6 yrs old and she lives with 2 guinea pigs..they are very happy and groom each other and such. Getting another bunny is alot of work! Plus spaying and neurting is a must ..it is alot of work to have 2 buns, your best bet may be to introduce a guinea pig..they do not require the surgery that buns do..all the luck to you..trust me on this.. the buns may get territorial and fights begin. Plus the buns you have now will get jealous of the newcomer

i too have a bunny rabbit for about 4 years now. he has no other rabbit companions but is always happy to play with me and my sisters. if it is neutered find a female bunny buddy. make sure he is neutered because it only take 30 seconds and...... BOOM BABY BUNNIES!!!!!!!!!! so be careful. your bunny is living large and very happy. you are a great owner!!

after this long he would probably get jealous of another bunny
and if you got a girl bunny pretty soon you'll have 20 bunnies which is probably more than you want

wow! congrats ^^ ur bunny's prob been taken care of really well by u`

erm, I think all animals get lonely without a companion. espc if ur away often. u could get him a companion, but mayb a male? or u shud neuter ur pet first. though I sometimes think it's a bit cruel...

Absolutely NOT. Bunnies will almost always fight if housed together. They are not group animals! Your bunny is far better off just with you. :)
