We are the reason. Why, because we allow it. The lady here who said "The system works on a need-to-be basis". is right on the spot. Our legal system only improves three things; the pockets of lawyers, judges and the cities, counties and government.
It was designed that way long ago far from here. It only exists to feed itself by using human strife as fuel. Examples are: petty crimes, traffic tickets, small amounts of drugs, supporting groups like gays and NAMLBA, or any other group of people with thin skin, J-walking, expired tags, parking meters, the poor soles going through a divorce etc (my pet peeve is juvenile court punishing kids for acting like the same rappers/sports figures/actors/ that they let our for being rich or famous) Mom and Dad still have to pay.
There are really only two kinds of people in any court; the payer and the payee. Regardless of the outcome of any lawsuit, criminal trial or traffic court visit, the system gets paid. Our wonderful law system lets certain people out because they know they will be back again, paying more cash to a lawyer and the system. It's all about greed.
Just ask any Lawyer to let you hire him for $20.00 an hour, that will kill him right away.
Just for kicks, if I ran the world, all Molesters, Rapists, Murderers, people dealing drugs to children (up to 18) etc. would be killed after a fair trial and two DNA tests. Over, end of story.
You ask, why not just lock them up forever? Because that would require more cash to support their sorry asses.
PS: How many of you out there know someone who has commited a crime? WE need to stop feeding the system and the prices will go down.

I couldn't agree with you more. I know of particular instances where offenders have received more prison time for writing bad checks than another received for murdering a 2 year old, and one who gets more time for drug charges than another gets for beating and molesting a 6 year old. The list goes on and on. There is no real justice, and every time I am reminded of things like this it makes me wonder how some people can sleep at night when sentences are handed down which are totally unjust, and don't fit the crime at all. It seems as if some judges don't even have a clue as to what they are doing, and the legal system offers more protection to the perpetrators of sick disgusting crimes such as this, than to the victims themselves. I could go on forever about it, because this is and always has been a subject that really gets under my skin.

Our legal system is stupid along with the people who are in it. Only idiots would allow a molester to do less time than a thief. And that is exactly what they are IDIOTS. If you rape someone you should be put in there for life. I'm not saying that a thief or a drug addict shouldn't get time in prison but when you put them for more time than a rapist that is just wrong. But hey it will be on their own conscience when the molesters who are put in jail for a short time go out and rape and kill again. So in time they will see how stupid they are.

I dont have a problem with the amount of time drug dealers do or do not get convicted of in prison.
As for child molesters... prison is not a strong enough sentence. I think you should send them into a cell for a day with a mob of angry mothers that have had children victimized by bastards like this. The sick **** would be torn apart... no weapons needed or necessary. I bullshit you not.

an exciting, polemical question (and no, i did not race to the glossary for the be conscious "polemical" :P). I accept as true with Steve that a visit to the glossary isn't a foul element once you're searching to maintain away from repetition of a particular be conscious, whose meaning you're searching to apply two times interior of an identical sentence or paragraph. so a techniques as i'm worried the glossary, a lifeless ringer for the dictionary, is a device for use at the same time as that is major. I understand the point of your question, even if. you're tying what's regularly said as "red prose" to glossary over-utilization, an situation it really is basic to many that're merely commencing out writing. so a techniques as i'm worried it really is all area of the education procedure. As a author matures he/she quickly discovers that frequently "a lot less is better", and they have a tendency to leave the better flowery factors of their writing at the back of. So does this variety of writing sicken me? no longer somewhat, because I understand the position that is coming from. or perhaps now a author with some adventure will attempt with a diverse writing type (as I have done) and are available out with something it really is decidedly "purplish". and then countless beta readers quickly positioned this wayward author (who, me?) lower back on the immediately and narrow.

It needs some updating, it needs politics out of it, it needs honest judges and attorney's. Our legal system is without a doubt screwed up. Drug offense, need rehabilitation not prison time, rapist need to be sent to a penal colony on the planet Mars......

The prisons are too crowded with people in for minor drug offenses, which is a HUGE waste of resources. I'd rather see monies go toward prosecuting real criminals like rapists, murderers and corporate criminals.

The legal system sucks. I live in Colorado, my brother spent 6 months in jail for 2 D.U.I.'s. A co worker of mine got 5 years probation for arm robbery, he only got away with $100. But still he robbed a convient store with a gun and he just got probation.

That is incredible. Drug users usually only hurt themselves. Rapists obviously ALWAYS hurt others.
