What an awesome question!
Let me comment on the "fear of injury" first.
Worrying about getting hurt takes away from your focus.
Have faith in the fact that if you "GO" 100%...you won't get hurt.
When you focus on the play...and let go of the "fear"...your aggression will increase because you are tuned in to going 100% and getting the job done.
Don't think about the little things...think about the job at hand, each and every play. Concentrate on the play at hand... hitting harder and running faster than the play before.
Focus and getting your head in the game.
After a very long life of football...to the 5th year of college...
I have been most successful starting the night before....as I'm in bed...I think of how I will execute my responsibilities and do my job.
As a linebacker: I would first imagine beating the lead back to the gap...getting there with my eyes open, shoulders over my knees and striking him with my shield arm and looking for the ball carrier...attacking the ball carrier at the farthest most forward point...head low but up...watching his hips....wrapping, driving, and drilling him into the earth.
I would just do that...thinking about how I would handle situations...always in slow motion...always using perfect technique, posture, and style - always being successful...being first in the gap, intercepting the ball and tucking it away, running like the wind - breaking blocks and straight arming potential tacklers.
My day of the game is spent focusing on making sure my gear is clean, useable, and ready for battle. When that was done, if it was a home game...I always took a chunk of the endzone, and everytime I thought about a girl, or a car, or anything that didn't have to do with football...I would take out the clod of soil and smell it...and think football.
For away games...I listened to my favorite music and fantasized about hitting my opponents with different punishing techniques...an elbow, a fist under the breastplate, my shoulder just under their facemask, or driving a ball carrier to the ground hard enough to make the air in his lungs chirp out.
I didn't like to talk to anyone.
Just grooved on my music, thought about the hell I would unleash and the pain I would create each and every hit.
First play of the game was my play ... usually I hit the left guard (weakest position of the field) to wake him up or put him out of the game. That always set the tone for me. I'd get in my zone then...and I stay there in controlled rage mode...the only thing that would put me over the edge and make me insane is if I got ahold of a running back or a quarterback and they began running for their life whimpering...the moment I heard a whimper...it was over...like a Lion eating a Gazelle as it tries to escape.
Now as I coach...I somehow get my players in zones and I'm not sure how I do it. They just talk to me...see the intensity on my face...and suddenly...they do "the shark". A sharks eyes glaze over when they eat...my Defensive players get like that after talking with me...they get so intense I have to fight the urge to wanna wake 'em up out of their feeding frenzy.
Do good things.
If you're a Defensive player...draw first blood.

I've seen running backs stick with the blocker no matter what. Go for the blocker's legs waist with your shoulder or hands (don't hold)right from the start and closest to the line as possible (so the blocker can't get any momentum). Basically you end up plugging that hole which is your job. Now the running back will need to find a new hole and without a blocker. It would be up to somebody else in the plug play to actually tackle the back. Like I said before some back stick with that blocker even if the blocker can't go anywhere. The offensive line will break down and the back might actually lose yards on the play.

This is something that's more closely tied to how you approach life and other things. If you find yourself as a confrontational person then you will find ways to let go of the hesitation and fear as that's more of what this is.
You can keep thinking about of the consequences but rather the idea of fully commiting to the action you want to take. ON teh field you have ten otehr people that are tied to you and your goal and this makes the idea of commitment to being "aggressive" easier.
Enjoy the hits and release the fear my friend.

when I'm on the bus ride to go to a football game i always bring my Ipod/cdplayer. that always makes me psyched..i also try to start cheers or beats on the bus to get the whole team pumped. another way to get me pumped is when i make a big hit or just do something good for the team. a way to get your mind off of injury is just think about the game..think about the play you're supposed to do and focus on the other team and try to read them.

Just go full-force the whole time and you will less likely be injured. Also remember that your vibe will be caught by your team and they will play harder. Whenever you are about to hit someone, think about making him fumble and that will make you more agressive.

don't be afraid, just get out there and hit one guy really really hard and that usually seems to take away the fear of getting hurt, idk why. and to get psyched up I suggest watching some great football plays or hitting a tackling dummy before the game

Football is kinda gay. That's why they're so aggressive, They're mostly confused homosexuals that hate themselves.
