My guess (as I don't work for them) would be some type of a WAN (Wide Area Network) that connects all their PCs running either a Windows 2000/2003 server or a Unix server. Probably tranfer the information through an SQL database.

But that's a guess based on computer standards

Typically they use a Frame-Relay connection to connect all the locations to the Headquarters.
