I have three children living at home. One is a very gifted gymnast who spends a lot of time training and at meets. This of course means that I spend a lot of time driving, and away from home/kids/husband. How have you handled this? I need creativity! Kids ages are 16, 8, 5. Gymnast is 8. Thanks!
Much Love!!

OK, why isn't gymnastics a category?

We eat dinner together every night we're not at the gym, go to movies, boating, park, camping etc. Not too concerned that we're not spending time as a family.

Madam, repetitious exercise, the same movements was not intended by nature! I recently had two hip replacements and part of the rehabilitation was understanding why body parts ware out.

This center had serviced tennis players, skiers, gymnastics and swimmers. among others. Pay back from nature starts usually in the late thirty's. And then the issues are for the rest of the life.

Making a gymnastic out of an 8 year old may not be the best thing down the road at 45 or older.

Where is interaction with other children, reading, music and family! Sports are good, but like everything else in life, too much of anything is not the answer.

The family that eat, do and share things together, stays together.

You and your husband need to share the time with the kids. Rotate the days that you have to take the gymnast to training.

Its tough, but make sure you as a family is in agreement to the sacrifice of "family" for the sports. Life is too short with loved ones to spend on activities. Not that they aren't important, but shouldn't run yours or the kids lives.

You handle this by just trying to do whatever feels right. Take your husband's and 16 year old's opinion on the situation
