Auto or manual?? If it is auto, there may be a failure with the Neutral Safety Switch. If it is manual, there may be a problem with the Clutch pedal switch. Does the starter engage but not turn over? if so, there may be a need to replace the flywheel ring-gear. When it does turn over, is it solid, or is it weak? Does temperature have anything to do with it? There are MANY possible causes, but I am leaning toward the Neutral Safety Switch.

the shifter linkage needs to be adjusted ,over time they get a little wear on them ,,and this causes the neutral safety switch not to full engage ,,this is a simple e fix,,one you ca probably do your self,,if you can get a manual on it from advance auto ,,or auto zone ,,and it will explain the procedure,,in full,,good luck,,hope this help,s.

Sounds like the neutral safety switch, not sure where it is but I think it's mounted on the trans. that year.
