There are several ways to add to your horsepower, MOST of them legal.
Many people want to remove or disable emissions control devices. NOT smart. it can cost you LOTS of money as well as possible jail time.
If you want to increase HP for this ride, the best, simplest and most legal way is to use a program modifier from Hypertech or Superchips.
If you are going to drive this on the public streets, be sure that you buy the one that is legal for your state.
There are two versions of either that is legal for the street. Federal (49-state) and California. There is not a great deal of difference in performance between them, so it is safer to go with California. The going price for them is around $300 to $400 depending on where you buy them.

If you're rebuilding the engine replace the camshaft with a performance one. Replace the heads with High Output ones.
Put more air, AEM, brute or AirAid, or anyone who can deliver up to 30 - 40% more air.
A chip will be a necesity, there are plenty on the market; if you're going to go in 80+hp you'll need to check air flow, in and out.
In the exhaust you'll consider a dual cat back system and hedders, some extra 10 -15 hp.
Maybe Edelbrock has a full system for your engine, same way as Banks has them for the diesels.

try replacing that stock cam with a higher performance cam that won't mess with emissions, try to get more air in there, try dual exaust or a chip. if it is strait carbed try a holly street dominator intake and a holly 600carb with an R/V cam. hard to keep tires on it.
