My 10 yr old niece has a birthday coming up in 2 weeks. Since I don't have kids I am really out of touch with what little girls like these days but I'd like to buy her something special. In the past she was into Spongebob and Da Bratz but I think she's outgrown that. She loves, games, books and toys in general Any ideas? I also am going to a Bat Mitzvah for the 1st time. What are some appropriate gift ideas? A friend of mine, who happens to be Jewish, said to give money or a money order? Does anyone agree or is an actual gift more appropriate?

I may be a guy, but I have a 10 year old sister. I would go with something like a Bratz doll (Believe me, she probably hasn't outgrown it) and as for the Bar(or Bat) Mitszvah I would bring something you know the person would want personally because this celebration is a passage to adulthood. I also researched this the other day.

On my daughters 10th birthday I got her a gameboy with The bratz game. She is ADHD and it helps keep her entertained. Plus it is a gift that never ends because of all the different games for every age. As far as the Bah Mitzvah, I am really not sure but I think that money is appropiate from everything that I have heard.

DO NOT GET HER A GIFT CARD!!!! I hate those things... I prefer cash. You can't spend gift cards everywhere. Cash is even good on ebay. Anyways, gifts: Dolls, mp3, PDAs ROCK! (they keep track of everything, some can get internet on them from a wifi connection, double as mp3s, many have an expansion slot so you can put even more stuff, she can use it at school if she downloads a planner program, come w/ calculator standard, download games, a few double as phones or cameras, etc.), CDs, umm... I'd really recomend money though... that way she can get what she wants.

Books are always great ideas. If she is going on ten she is probably just getting to the point where she could appreciate books like King Fortis the Brave, Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl.

I think money will be the best...I'm 12 and When I was 10 I got money and loved it. I loved the fact that I could buy whatever I wanted, That is was my money, and I felt like an adult!! Well, I hope you get her a present she will like! Good Luck! Best Wishes!

Money shows that you have not given much thought to the individual and his/her interests. Better to choose something and give it. Money is a cop out. Pick something the child has shown an interest in;or that you feel she would like to be introduced to.

give her a bracelet or a funny movie. the best way is ask her what she like. or you can e-mail her (if she have e-mail, or internet) and ask but dont tell your name.^_^

but i think you should buy something useful, something she can always carry it with her.
