HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US

Why is it easy enough to live
without someone you love,
or think you love,

but almost impossible to live
without someone you're learned
you know you need?

Wouldn't it be a wonderful gift
to discover that they
both came within
the same package?

Ouros, Fac ut vivas!

It has everything to do with philosophy.

There's many different types of love and many different types of need. Yes it would be/is wonderful when two or more of those types are able to be found/had within one package. That's the concept behind SUV' and Minivans.... Multiple uses. But unlike cars, people change constantly, second by second... Their loves and needs follow suite, morph, adapt, grow, expand etc etc etc.

You have no actual question, and you are wrong, this is not philosophy, it is literature or perhaps sociology.

So the answer to the philosophy question you did not actually ask is NO, you cannot measure love by how much you have learned to need it.

Philosophically your premise is just wrong. It really is hard to live without someone you love, even if you have not "learned" that you need them. They can be one in the same, but what would make this a wonderful gift? The poem has no imagery.

So you say Love can be discarded easily unless you "learned" you need it? Love is not a utility, and no it cannot be measured that way.

I am sorry but this is not a philosophy question. It does not relate to the study of knowledge or the love of wisdom. And nor does it relate to ethics, morality, epistemology, ontology, philosophy of mind, existentialism. metaphysics or any other topic I can think of. Perhaps you might categorise this elsewehere.

I need my love to love me
My love fulfills my needs,
But, it wouldn't be that easy
if my love was needy.

I could grow to need another
if I couldn't have my lover,
But, what is a need compared
to bliss under the covers?

I have lived with a man I needed, and we were both miserable. Now, I live with the man I love, and I NEED him for love's sake. Your observation is beautiful! Thanks for reminding me how lucky I am!
