The computer is obvious. Unsupervised computer use in a bedroom can lead to all kinds of problems. Just read the Question above yours called "How is this Possible". Her daughter gave remote access to their computer to one of her friends.

The tv in the room is different. What it does is allow the child to isolate from the rest of the family. This is not a good thing. Families must spend time together, even if watching TV. A child watching programs on TV, by themselves, can misinterprete something they see and/or hear. When the family is watching together, the parents have the opportunity to clarify or correct things like this.

They also, usually, have the TV on while studying. This has been shown to be a serious distraction. It also interferes with the child remembering what they studied and results in high failure rates on tests taken the next or a few days later.

This is really a question of maturaty and not of age. I was on the computer at 16 but not in my room, but had privacy all the same. I didn't do anything that was wrong, just chatted with friends from school. I had a TV but barely watched and still really don't. I spend more time on the stupid internet. I just think that it's really up to the parents and what they put on for parental control. My question is, why do nine year olds have Cell phones . . .thats what makes me sick. I totally saw this for real.

Yes,because some kids need space. They need something of their own. Im 13 and i have a tv and a computer in my room. But you might be different because i use my computer for internet, school, and my own personal entertainment.I have a tv too.but if you dont want your kid watchin anything that you wouldn't like then just block those channels.and if you want your kid to go on certain sites. put a parental block on them. Like a school computer. But i wouldn't recommend that because kids like to have their own little space. I hope i answered your question.

It depends on how much you trust your children and how mature they are.

The problems regarding internet censorship centre around the fact that parents aren't interested in watching their kids internet habits and would prefer the government to do it for them, taking away the rights of legitimate users to browse the web freely.

If you want to give your kids a computer with internet access in their room, set up some kind of deal with them to allow you to check up on what they are browsing, etc. However, this isn't a way to invade on their privacy, only go snooping if you see something that sets off alarm bells.

16 years or older are probably fine, younger than that (depending on the child) should probably have some form of supervision, if you are worried about them viewing pornography or something else.

If you do review your childs browsing habits, don't jump to conclusions about what you find though. If you find something not great, sit them down and talk to them about it maturely.

Don't snoop behind their backs though. If you are going to be checking, let them know that.
