I just watched this film yesterday and am sure they never fully explained this name.

No, you didn't miss it - they never really explained it. I think that was the idea: to give the character a name that would be a bit silly, resemble superheroes's names and mean absolutely nothing.

It's never really explained. It may just stand for a G. It may stand for good. It may even stand for girlfriend. We never really know. Good question, though.
