I'm solving my math homework. Should I use the blue pen, or the black pen? Perhaps a pencil?

For calculations use a pen (either colour would be fine!)

For graphs or any sort of diagram use a pencil.

Exam boards have been concerned that students are using pencil for calculations and working out as if they think it's wrong they erase it but don't put anything else in its place.

If it were in pen and were left on the page they may gain marks for working even if the final answer is incorrect.

It depends on which school you go to. Most primary schools prefer pencil, but secondary schools let you choose between black and blue pen with pencils for any diagrams you have to draw.

Use whatever medium you like. Once the homework has been handed in you can't change it in any way.

It may help though to rough it out in pencil first to enable you to make corrections.

Perhaps you should direct your mental energy to the maths problem and not on the trivia of what media you choose to write with.

For math, most likely a pencil, although this depends on the class and teacher, and what exactly you are doing.

Not to sound rude, but the teacher probably told you on the first day of class, or the day he or she gave out this assignment.

Pencil. In math, you can make mistakes and if you cross them out, it looks messy. Math needs to look neat, so you can go through the problem later in case you got it wrong.

my old math teacher took points off of hw if we didn't use pencils. so we got into the habit of using only pencils.
you should too, since it's much easer to re-do mistakes
