i was gonna reformat and wipe out the computer and reinstall everythign and i don't know how and really don't want to loose everythign..help what do i do..

when i have mozzila firefox open i don't get the pop-ups when i don't have the internet on i get tons..i was gonna wipe out the computer and start over but don't know how to..i need help

i have yahoo tool bar and pop up blocker and yes a registered copy of windows xp they are coming up when im not on the net

Hello, Pat! Well first of all, you have pop ups because they are caused by something called Spy-ware. And that is what websites place on your computer so they are better able to place annoying banners on websites you visit. Virus is a program someone writes to make your computer do something YOU don't want it to do or to get passwords, PIN numbers, etc... and you don't have that. The best way to get rid of them(Spy-ware) (without having to result to reformat) is to down load free spy-ware detectors on the net. I humbly recommend Spy-bot Search n Destroy. Also, Ad-ware SE. When you down load both and install them. Run them Back to Back. For some strange reason, they don't always see spy-ware that is lurking on your computer. So, what one don't see the other one is will. I run them both and they keep most of the spy-ware off your system. Also, I would recommend uninstalling your Yahoo toolbar. They use spy-ware so they can tell advertisers where you been and you can read that in the legal mumbo-jumbo just before you install it. It would save you a lot of trouble.

If you are using a licensed copy of windows, that should block most pop ups. The Yahoo tool bar has a pop up blocker, you might want to try that.

Do a free online scan at Ewido.com It will get rid of alot of junk. Run Adaware SE and get Windows Defender Beta 2 and update it and run a full scan. get Spybot S & D.
That will get rid of it.
Please do not reformat your computer. That is an idiot telling you that stuff.
Also get spysweeper. It is well worth the $30 for the year subsciption

Yes, its true that Firefox doesn't get affected. Usually, Internet Explorer give lots of problem with popups.
You are most probably infected with spywares. To get a definition of spyware, you may want to look wiki for it.
Firstly, you can download Spybot search and destroy. Its a free application, and it will get rid of all your unwanted popups.
Remember to reboot your pc once you have quarantine using S&D.

then when that page loads, click to "start a new thread" (either upper left or upper right), and then in that new thread (it's a box like this one where you can type what your problem is), state your problem and someone will be along shortly to help you and they will go back and forth with you answering you and giving you directions until, hopefully, your problem is gone.
these people are experts and it's free. They deal with this same problem all the time (spyware) and getting it off of people's PC's.

A lot of pop ups are caused by spy ware. I would recommend getting Ad-aware SE. It is free and it works really well.

hi, i recommand you to use firefox.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
firefox can edit which site/popup to block and unblock.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
