We are nice people for the most part aside from our crazy driving and even thats not to bad. Unlike other places i have lived that tend to shun outsiders right of the bat. We welcome just about everyone at first we don't jump the gun so to speak. But if you make a big mistake not only will we let you know it we might just run ya outa town depending how bad a mistake it was.
And bradley as far as the homeless and panhandler sittuation IT's become a real problem there not all of them but a few have become a very big problem to taking advandtage of peoples generosity. in some cases they have basicly bit the hand that feeds them by robbing the very same people that just gave them food. There are also some that have commited rape and other violent crimes. before you judge dallas on that look at the whole picture and understand they are only addressing a problem that has gotten out of hand......

Since I'm a Texan (born in Ark. but came to Texas as soon as I could) and live in Dallas I should not answer this question...but I want to so here goes.
I came to Dallas because of the job opportunities. Dallas has been great for me and my family. If you are into sports we have it all. Education...we have several fine universities. We have the night life too. Most of the people in Dallas came from somewhere else so you won't meet to many native Dallasites. As with any large city you need to know where not to go. I saw one reply that she thinks of us as hillbillies and that is not true. Maybe a few rednecks but certainly not the other. One last thing if you like HOT weather come on down.

I am a native Texan and lived in Dallas for 10 years. I have to say-- there is no love loss between me and that city. I find the people to be shallow, the "in crowd" in the city to be a bunch of middle-aged "wanna-be's" and the city overall.... boring. It is a shame because if you go to Houston, Austin or any of the small towns in south Texas or west Texas, your experience with people is vastly different. Dallas people seem to believe they are above everyone else on the planet. I wouldn't ever consider living there again.

Texans in general--hell, everyone screws up, I may as well give them a fair chance, just like anyone else (talking about my online lady friend from the Galveston area--not anyone political, really), though my trust of anyone of the non-urban or redneck persuasion is at an all-time low these days....

Dallas in particular is another story. What kind of barbaric backwater of a city makes it a misdemeanor crime to feed a homeless person a *sandwich*? Really. I mean, I can see the harm in just giving money to pandhandlers (what with alcohol and drugs always being probable issues), but how do you *abuse* food that way? It isn't like you're going to Super-Size them on the spot or anything....

Really, there is a difference between wanting to maintain public order, ok, and just being flat-out MEAN to folks. Singapore is flat-out MEAN to folks for caning them (publicly beating them with a thick rattan *cane* or stick) for *chewing gum*.

And Dallas, Texas has crossed that line too, and is flat-out mean to folks who just want to give an apparent poor person a fair break. And yeah, I know, panhandlers suck, and they exploit people's guilt too aggressively.

But this isn't about that. This is about *punishing ordinary citizens*, or non-panhandlers, just for seeing fit to exercise ordinary human *kindness*. What the hell? Next thing you know, it'll be against the law to let kids believe in Santa Claus, you'll have to break their hearts openly and publicly by a certain age or face jail time....

Really? Does Texas HAVE TO make Cruelty the Law of the Land?

Having been to Dallas a few times, I only met a handful of native Texans, everyone else was a transplant.

Everyone was really nice though.

You have issues with Texans? Because you know I may be a Midwestern in heart but I have lived in Texas for 7 years off and on and I love it and wouldn't trade it for the world.

Having grown up in Fort Worth, my impression of Dallas and Dallasites is very poor. Too much history to go into now. Suffice it to say that Dallas regards the rest of the state as unimportant and irrelevant.

A friend of mine is in real estate in Durango, Colorado. Everything in Durango is rented and lots of people want to move in so Randy rented his outhouse to a newly arrived Mexican family. They said they had to leave because they could not stand the noise the Texans were making in the basement apartment.

Now, Texas has become so large and huge and so many people moving here that are not from here that we are a mix of people from all over the world. We are Multicultural. Police still ride horses downtown and carry guns and wear cowboy hats.

I am from California and I love Texas. I want to move there one day. I think that Texans are friendly people. They also tend to be religious and quite conservative. Oh yeah, they also like guns.
