I know you've heard this but for real: practice. Also soccer isn't all about skills. Being in top shape helps tremendously. About a month before the season begins i run a mile every day and it helps overall. Also Doug Miller camps are great. They are pro soccer players that teach you new moves but mostly beat down the basics, which perfects your skills.

the best exercise when you are alone is to juggle the ball with your feet and keep it up in the air. you can use your head, thigh, chest, shoulder... too. It will improve your technical skills. Good players can do this as long as they want. If you can't do it 50 times, you should not call yourself a soccer player.

You just need to play. Take europeans for example and play every day. Me, i've played since i was like 8 years old and by the age of 13-14 i already had good shooting abilities and skills: passing dribling, even goalkeeping. By playing when ur young you develop the reflexes of playing the game, rather then having to think at ur actions before u do them, when ur older (over 15 or so) and just started playing football (whatever, soccer how u call it).
