iPod video:
30 GB $299
60 GB $399
iPod video U2 Special Edition:
30 GB $329
iPod nano:
1 GB $149
2 GB $199
4 GB $249
iPod shuffle:
512 MB $69
1 GB (1024 MB) $99
I don't think you should get an iPod.
If you are planning to get iPod nano, and have a PC, I recommend you get the Creative Zen V Plus. (Not Zen V) It has fm radio, fm radio recorder, voice recorder, and video playback. It costs the same, but supports more file formats.
If you are planning to get iPod video, and have a Windows XP Home/Pro/Media Center Edition, I recommend you purchase the Toshiba Gigabeat S. CNET says its a greater value. It has better navigation, sexier look, nice interface, nice screen, etc. It has My TV (good if you have MCE), My Radio, My Music, My Videos, and My Pictures. It costs the same as the iPod video, but has a lot of features, and supports more file formats than the iPod. It also takes subscription services like URGE music $14.95/month and Vongo movies $9.99/month, if you're into legal downloading.
If you wanted a shuffle, save some money to get a Zen V Plus because Flash MP3 Players are stupid. But if you really want a Flash MP3 Player, get a Dell DJ Ditty. It costs the same as the iPod but supports the important WMA and WMA DRM format.

pass with the video have faith me, as an proprietor of the two, the Video is a miles greater advantageous ipod even however there's an excellent value bounce. The nano no longer in basic terms has much less reminiscence, it additionally falls aside plenty. With the Video, you get greater reminiscence, the alternative of observing a action picture or television instruct, and that's greater solid than the nano.

I have both. I thought the video would be the one I'd use because I could download video podcasts, etc. In the end though, I carry the nano with me all the time. Why? I listen to music a lot more than watch videos. I love the battery life. It is so small that it doesn't deform my shirt pocket so I always have it with me.

30gb with a MP4 file should play longer then two hours, unless it's the battery..
Personally though i'd go with the Video. The option to play movies is available to you this way and the hardrives on most of the video models are bigger then the nanos if i remember.
Isn't it alittle early to be thinking about what you want for christmas?

Get the IPod video. The Ipod nano isn't worth it, you only get a few gigs worth of storage for an expensive price, one that is very close to the 30 gig one. (video.)
the nano's also crack and break easily if you dont care for it very well, or drop it.
