Logic would say Republicans are. In 1994 they managed to over power the Democrats with an idea. Contract with America. This was as opposed to what the Democrats had been pushing for some time. Let's get the 'special' interest groups to vote for us. Contract with America sounded like we were all the same. Not Democrats or Republicans, not one of many 'special' groups. Just common American people.
Clinton managed through force of charisma to hold on to the White House in 1996 easily. But the last shoe fell when Gore couldn't beat Bush. Then Kerry couldn't beat Bush.
Democrats haven't made a serious run at retaking Congress since they lost it. And their whole mantra has been for the last six years how dumb GWB is and how Congress is doing everything wrong.
Well George may be dumber than a box of rocks and not near as versatile but he's beaten the best a brightest the Democrats had to offer TWICE.
Congress may be doing everything wrong. But what have the Democrats had to offer besides they are wrong? Have they pushed out any NEW ideas? Or have they just kept going with the old ones they were using when they lost in 1994.
Right now I'd say Republicans have the better position even if they aren't smarter. A poor idea is better than no idea at all.
Democrats may be smarter but they are playing it dumb. They are using the game plan from 40 years ago and it's not working today. You can't expect to win with the campaign slogan "Bush is a Dummy". Bush isn't running this year and he won't be running in 2008.
Go ahead tell me just how wrong I am. Actually I want to see the Democrats take back at least one house of Congress. I'd hate to see they waste all this effort bashing Bush and get absolutly nothing out of it. It could mean the death of the Democratic party as we know it.

Actually a political party is only an organization. It's the members and leadership of the party who are or are not intelligent. A political party can't be intelligent.
Just a thought...

None of the above, because a) people have this stupid, annoying habit of letting their groups only be as smart as their dumbest member (a chain is only as strong as its weakest link), and b) because politicians and wannabe-politicians in particular don't *care* to be intelligent, and in fact will attack intelligence in others, simply because they see it as a threat to their power base, their petty little pecking orders and food chains.
Really. About the only political party I'd trust to have any intelligence is one that formed from a group of people *who originally had nothing to do* with politics. Hence my one-time Proposal on Yahoo News Message Boards (which is not Answers, by the way) to start up a Dumb Blonde Cheesecake Party, with the platform (not the shoes silly, the political one) being: "A sexy backrub for every tired pair of shoulders, and a deep-dish pizza on every table."
Seriously. Just have some people who are *very* easy on the eyes show up and be in the business of offering comfort and solace to *everyone*, regardless of whether they have a CEO-caliber pile of filthy lucre or not....

There are some brilliant minds in both parties, and some real idiots. I'll leave it to you to decide who falls into what category. The issue in my mind is not intelligence, it's character and integrity. You can be a genius, and if you don't have the integrity to do what is right, and not be enslaved to a political agenda, then what good is being a genius.

there are strengths and weaknesses in both parites. I know some intelligent and not so intelligent from both parties- if you want people to think that you are intelligent you should not stereotype or insult people according to political party- that only shows a lack of intelligence, wisdom and discernment!

Parties are not intelligent, its the people in them. Therefore, none of the parties can be the most intelligent=)

The answer is not at all clear. Both parties have some truly smart people, but those are not necessarily the people who are in charge. I met Howard Dean at an airport one day and had a brief conversation with him. He is not nearly as much of a threat to Republicans as are the Republicans themselves.

Actually this is an opinion you need to form on your own. Look at how the US is doing now (war, spying on citizens, paying friends to take the biggest contracts that are made available because of administration blunders, incredibly slow response to Katrina, then inept response to Katrina, then crooked deals because of slow and inept response to Katrina, worst deficit ever, outing CIA agent, because her husband didn't approve of the war, everyone in the world hates us. attaching admendment opposing gay marraige to every bill going thru Senate, whether it's about immigration or congressional raises, slow and no response to immigration problem, I'm running out of room) VS how the country was 6.5 years ago (no deficit, money in the bank, worldwide admiration, highly esteemed Super Power with
unstoppable resources, environmentally friendly) but you need to make up your own mind!
