It stands for Geometry.
It also stands for God, at least in English and American Freemasonry.

It might be interesting to note that you may see the G in countries that do not speak English. For example, the G may display in a lodge in Peru or France. Spanish for God is Dios and French for God is Dieu, so it doesn't seem like it means God to them. However, Spanish for geometry is geometria, and in French it is geometrie, keeping consistent with the G.

Keep in mind that there are variations of Masonry all over the world, as we have no central governing body. North American Freemasonry is the only body that I can truly speak for, just as an English Mason might feel uncomfortable answering for us.

The Letter "G"

The letter "G" has always been important in Masonic symbolism, standing for the Grand Geometrician of the Universe or God

My father and stepfather were both Masons.

The G stands for God.

That's what they told me, anyway. Could mean Gooseberries, for all it matters.

I've always heard that it's super secret, but really stands for god.
