I know it's wrong morally, and that it's a crime, but if you had to steal, would you do it? Don't be too quick to judge someone who says yes, you never know what situation you might find yourself in during your life. There are plenty of little old ladies who have worked their whole lives, and can't afford to buy food so they steal it so they can eat. What do you think, would you steal?

I can say that no I would not steal for one reason. When I was 10 years old I was coaxed into taking some candy from this local feed store at night. At the time I didn't know it was wrong to do this. The next day I was at a girlfriends house and the police showed up for a measely , five chocolate footballs, 6 lickamade sticks, and two koolaid pop cycles that weren't even frozen. I was so embarassed and I learned a lesson the hard way. There's always a way to get something to eat. There's soup kitchens, there's town food banks, Salvation Army, Churches, and all you have to do is ask. It's not begging, it's not stealing, you just have to know where to go and who to ask. The Ten Commandments forbids it and my church upbringing taught me different. I also taught my children the same. Under no circumstances are you to steal and they've turned out good. People steal , because they think there's no other way. It's from the lack of education of the facts. A lot of people just think it's easier to steal than to ask. Don't forget you may do it once, twice and maybe a third, but you'll get caught.

I don't know how I'll feel in the future. I know stealing is wrong. I live alone and I have to say that, right now, I don't love my own life enough to justify stealing to survive. I mean, I have a lot to live for.....but, I am not so in love with life at THIS point in time that I could steal to save my own life....Maybe in the future I will feel differently...maybe circumstances will be harsh and it won't just be me I have to keep alive....but if it's just a question of keeping myself alive? For now, no. I'm not worth it.

Would I steal to feed myself??? Not in this country. There are lots of ways that homeless and the needy can feed themselves without committing a crime. I prefer to use an utilitarian (or greatest good for the greatest number of people) ethical model for most ethics questions. In this case an utilitarian must abstain from stealing as it would (long term) cause prices to rise and have a negative effect on the rest of society.

Never. It is wrong, unethical, immoral and just stupid. It's also against one of the Ten Commandments (BIG no no): Thou Shalt Not Steal. We all know that there are so many programs and people out there who can and will help those of us who are struggling. And if someone stole something from us that we want to "steal" back, I suggest finding proof of your purchase, get a lawyer, and get it back the right way.

It is possible to steal and not harm a single individual. Steal one crumb of bread from somebody's lunch and they are not harmed nor is it unethical. Steal one crumb from 1 million people's lunches every day for a year and you have 365 million crumbs of bread on your hands to do whatever you want with. Is that wrong?

If I wanted something, did not have the money, I would walk away and come back when I can pay cash for the item. I would not steal.

Stealing food is one thing. Yes, if it came to feeding my family and I absolutely had no other choice.

Stealing for any other reason, probably not.

With such abundance our modern world makes possible, is it ethical to have so many people starving?

I wonder whom is really stealing from whom?

I don't think it is wrong for people to steal back what they have had stolen from them.
