Is it for the cameras at intersections for when they run red lights? Why do people use those covers. I've seen ones that are dirty yellow. I've seen ones that are pretty much black. What is it that you hide people!!!?

its not for the red lights, its to avoid speeding tickets. most cop speed guns are aimed at your license plates. your license plate reflects back to the gun and he knows your speed. but the plate covers wont allow the laser to reflect back to the speed gun so the cop wont know your speed. its probably illegal I'm not sure though.

People are reacting to the intrusive speed and red light cameras, which in many cases are a revenue tool, rather than a safety issue. Whenever there is a system set up that assumes guilt, and requires you to prove that you are not guilty (a gross perversion of the assumption of innocence that we all should have), people will use anything they can to avoid that problem. If it is hard to read the plate, you may not get the red light ticket!

Maybe they steal license plates and don't want the cops to check them. Whatever the reason, they ARE illegal.

they prevent the camera from getting a good shot of the LP number..and prevent radar guns from getting your speed
