One way that you can do it is to go to your character map (on Windows, you do it by going to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map
Check that out because if you scroll down there are all kinds of things there you can use and this way you won't have to remember a bunch of crazy number combinations. And then when you pick out what you want, click on it (or double click), press the copy button and then you can paste it into the window you are typing in!

I keep a text file on my desktop with all the special characters I use a lot. Then when I want one I just copy and paste it .
To get it in the file in the first place I'd just copy and paste from someone's username.
Or you could copy and paste them from here
