Well, since you have started ' those magic changes', your pediatrician might suggest that you go see a gynecologist or an OB/GYN for a more thorough internal exam. I personally wouldn't want to go if I know for a fact that I'm bleeding on my exam date, but, I have gone when I was due to get it, literally at any second.

I do know that some pediatrician's offices are equipped with exam tables with the necessary attachments. Pediatricians would most likely have speculums ( a device that would be inserted into you to hold open the tissues of the vagina so that the cervix can be viewed ) that are small enough for their young patients. Not all obstetricians or OB/GYN would have the smaller ones. It's a good question to ask BEFORE you walk in for an appointment.

Good luck. Relax, it isn't all that bad.

Well at 13 unless there is possibly something medically wrong you have no need to go to the gynecologist. But if that's the physical you are talking about tell you mom that your on your period and you don't feel comfortable getting the exam right now you would rather wait.
If you are talking about a school physical they won't even go there they may ask if you have started and when your last period was but that's it.

You will be fine you will be uncomfortable but it will be okay. You will put your feet in stirrups and the doctor will check you with KY jelly it will be a little cold with a finger inside your vagina and mashing on your abdomen to check your ovaries. Then the doctor will check your breasts. It will go by fast and you have no reason to be nervous. Good Luck !!!!

ok, they will ask you when you had your period last. when i went to the hospital to get a physical, they gave me a breast exam. and then the regular stuff, like weighing and checking to make sure that you are healthy.

If you are just going for a physical, then don't worry. They won't even ask you to take off your undies. Only worry if you're going to the gynocologist.

They will not check you down there if you do not want them too. I would go still and get the basics done.

Explain to the nurse that you are on your period and need to wear your pad/protection.

They will not do any "female" exams. You are too young, unless you've had sex.
