I think Andrea Yates is obviously a very troubled woman. She's not walking free on this; she's been committed to a mental institution with periodic review by a judge before release. I predict she'll be there for quite a long while. That being said, it does give me pause that she called her husband immediately after drowning the kids and asked him to come home because the children were hurt or sick. That shows a certain degree of awareness that her own actions were wrong. It's a very sad situation from any point of view, in my opinion.

Yea...SHE got justice. Her KIDS didn't!
I agree with you. I don't buy the insanity thing AT ALL. Anyone who murders anyone for any reason whatsoever HAS GOT TO BE INSANE to some degree! A sane person does not commit murder. Period. Therefore, every murderer that ever exsisted should be able to plead insanity??? There shouldn't even be an option to be able to plead insanity. Murder is murder...no matter who, when, why, what or where. She should get the death penalty...5 times over! Besides, if she's that friggin' crazy, what's the point of her exsistance anyway? What a crock! As far as her husband goes...he's just as worthless as his crazy f---ing wife.

I think the same thing all these people that kill there kids get away with it because they are "insane or mentally unstable" i think that they know what they did. She should have been given the death penalty. I completley agree with you. Her kids died a horrible death so she should to.

I think as long as she will never be able to mix amongst the "sane" people, she is better off in a mental facility...it's her husband who got off easy...knowing that she suffered from post partum depression and was not even supposed to be left alone with the kids, that alone should have been a crime, and why did the jerk keep impregnating her? He never owned up to his fault in this horrific tragedy.....

Killing innocent children is not justice. Okay yeah mental hospital is worse than prison but does it really matter b/c children died because her husband was too busy not paying attention to her behavior and she was too scared to get help or ashamed to ask. I think the husband should be punished too.

no, she and her husband should both have their heads held underwater, and just before they pass out pull them back up and slap them around a little. People that get off killing children by using the temporary insanity defense should be shot by the police trying to escape.

She is absolutely, positively nucking futz. As such, it's not appropriate to put her in prison; she's in for a lot worse regime in the hospital. And she'll never get out, unlike other killers.
But no, she didn't get justice. There's no justice for this.

Her husband needs to go up on charges of emotional and psychological abuse. If you have never had post partum depression, you're not entitled to an opinion.

I know she had post partum depression but she knew she had it and did not go for help. So she got what she deserved
