You are fine, they can handle it if you turn off the heat lamp. I had an iguana named Ike that never minded central air. Unless you live in the SPole, you probably don't need to cover them.

Are you turning off the light first? If you don't turn off the light over the iguana, then eventually it will die from exhaustion. It is the same way as if you were staying up 7-24's I discovered this the hard way. I actually killed mine trying to keep him warm. In their natural habitat, the temperature drops after sundown and drops even lower at night. You might try covering the cage after the light is turned off, to keep the air draft from hitting him all night. Iguanas are cold blooded and produce no heat from their bodies. If their temperatue drops, then their body temperature drops, too. Actually, when the body remperature drops, their systems slow down, so they are not as active during darkness, It does'nt hurt them. Most house temperatures don't drop below 70 degrees diring the night. That is a good night temperature fo them. You might put a small 'under the cage' heat pad made just for this purpose, underneath the cage. You can get it from a pet shop. Your iguana should never lie directly in contavt with it. I have a very low heat heat rock, which is not recomended, because some rocks are much too hot. Mine is very mild heat. He does not lay on it except sometimes during the night. The heat pad is much better if you are concerned about him getting cold. Good luck on raising your iguana. I love mine very much, and loosing it would really hurt me. I run a reptile rescue service and sometimes get in reptiles who have been exposed to too much undernearh heat. They usually die. Heat lulls them into a trance-like sleep, and they can burn internally very rapidly. They don't know to move from the heat source. It should feel just a little warm to your hand, but hot.

No. Iguanas cannot produce their own heat so covering them will not keep them warm. You must always provide a heat source...ceramic heater or infrared at night. The temperature at night can drop10-20 degrees cooler than the high of around 95 during the day. There must be a temperature gradient--hotter at one end of the cage and cooler at the other. Check out www.anapsid.org for lots more info on heating/lighting.

it is ok if it gets enough ventilation - i understand that the iguana would not be able to exist in the draught from the aircon, but on the other hand the animal would not appreciate being halfsuffocated in stale air if you covered it too much. is it possible to cover it right at the side where the air blows from? you know to screen off the blowing air?
you see it is not about temperature - lower temperature at night is ok (sure check the temperature with termometer in different places inside cage), it is about too little or too much movement of the air, you see. both can lead to sickness - stale air is no good, draft is no good. good luck in figuring out something

As long as he can breathe, yes... I'd check his temps and make sure that he's still staying warm enough, if not you can get a mild undertank heater, heat tape, or night bulb to keep him from getting chilled throughout the night. They can tolerate a small temp drop at night, but in general tropical reptiles are more sensitive to it.

No!!!! Not unless you want your iguana to sufficate.
Get a ceramic heater or a undertank heater and run one of them with a inferred bulb at night.

Mine went out some days in the past too, my temp develop into round 70, and he develop into ok. it is secure for the temp to be a touch decrease at evening, so he ought to be superb. As for the bulb, variety does remember, i imagine that the round bulbs very last more even if. also, in case you continually substitute them, the do bypass out speedier.
