Another opinionated opinion: No.... calling someone gay is not homophobic - it is really looked down on by strait guys and therefore is one of the ultimate forms of insulting terms. I like using queer myself. 1st they really hate it (who cares - funny) and secondly - I find that odd as an alternate meaning is more often more fitting than happy. No phobias involved.
