I heard that clove oil is good for teething babies, but I'm sure I don't use it straight. How do I dilute and what's the ratios? Thanks!!!

I like the Homepathic Teething Tablet, they dissolve quickly. They do not help your child sleep (says it right on the bottle) and it actually doesn't help their teeth come in any faster (my daughter has been using it since she was 4 months and is no closer to a full mouth of teeth then if she WASN'T using it).

When it was urgent I would use baby orajel and baby tylenol.

Now I use Captan Morgan (spiced rum) rubbed on her gums for the molars and when she cutting more then one at a time (unoffically recommended by my doctor and offically recommended by my mom after using it on my sister). You just rub it on their gums (don't put it in their bottle, just a little on your finger and be careful not to get bitten).

But I have had to use clove before, I actually took a clove and broke it (bit on it) and squeeze it right out of the source onto the gums (I used it when my daughter was 4 months old and we were at my grandmas and I forgot the orajel) and she seemed to like it. My grandma also says it works better if you get it from the clove then if you by clove oil. Just a little on your finger.

Right now I am also "teething", my wisdom teeth are cutting in very slowly, I actually started to notice it around the time that my daughter started teeth. Funny how mommy and baby are both teething at the same time. So when I get a dose of something (except I didn't like the tablets, taste like powder) she gets a dose (only smaller). Works for both of us!!!

Clove Oil For Teething

I have used it on myself and have never been told to dilute it. However, I can say from personal experience you want to dip a q-tip into the oil squeeze out the excess and then wipe the damp q-tip onto the babies gums. Clove oil is quite harsh and feels hot on the tongue for a few minutes but will stop the pain. Clove oil can also cause an upset stomach and loosen your babies stools. My doctor suggested to use the clove oil but to take some tylenol or Motrin so that the clove oil won't be needed as much.

I use clove oil and it works great... here is my recipe:

Make your own Teething gel:

Teething gel ointment
1 ounce pure vegetable glycerin or vegetable oil
2 drops essential oil of clove

Add one drop of clove to your glycerin and shake it until it is well blended. Test it on yourself to make sure it is not too strong before adding another drop. For a young baby I use 2 drops. You could use vegetable oil instead of glycerin if you want. Glycerin is very sweet so it makes the remedy a bit more appealing.

Cloves are really strong. Try Hyland's teething Tablets instead. They are all natural, and they disolve in baby's mouth. They are also supposed to help the teeth come in a little faster. They work wonders for my son. There is also no flavor to them. I would put them in my son's mouth and then give him his night-time bottle of milk and he slept all night while teething.

If your little guy has been crying that much for the past 3 days, then perhaps you should take him to the doctor. Are you sure it's not colic??? When babies are teeting, they don't get "blisters" on their gums... the gums get swollen and red, but they don't actually blister. Sometimes babies can get thrush and other infections in their little mouths. Either way, that wouldn't explain so much crying. I think your best bet here would be to take the little guy to the doctor to make sure it's not something serious. Since they have no way of telling us what hurts, we sometimes need an expert who knows what to look for. I hope he turns out to be alright... if I were you, I'd go ahead and go to the ER tonight since Thanksgiving is tomorrow. Good luck!

I use clove oil for my dental pain and I would NOT recommend it for a child. It tastes disgusting and burns like hell.
CAMILLA homeopathic drops are the very best thing for an infant. Anything homeopathic is safe for babies.
