Is it illegal to burn flags in the US?
I heard something about it, but please, only talk of what you're sure of.

It is not illegal to burn flags in the US in a protest. I assume that's what you mean.

1. As long as the flag is yours.
2. You have a permit to for open burning (if required for any fire).
3. The fire itself does not cause a danger to life and property. For example, you can't burn the flag in a crowded theater.

Also, the proper way to dispose of a US flag is by 'dignified' burning. The American Legion does this for worn and tattered flags in an honorable way.

If you have a flag that needs to be burned take it to the VFW or a fire hall they can burn it because they know how it is done with the respect it is due.

Congress was, or perhaps it was the president. Anyway they were trying to get an Amendment passed that would make it illegal to burn the Stars and Stripes, but it didn't end up passing.

No it isn't. It is protected under the 1st Amendment. Even Scalia agreed with this in the Supreme Court decision. According to Scalia, this is exactly what the 1st Amendment was meant to protect.
