I'm 36 weeks pregnant and I was wanting to know if its safe and okay to go swimming in a lake. I know swimming pools are fine but does swimming in a lake make any difference?

Unless your water has broke already, you can swim anywhere you lilke! Im 38.5 weeks preg and I love swimming it feels great. Enjoy!

The mucous plug keeps everything out of there and the baby safe. but after you lose it or your water ruptures you should aviod lakes and bathtubs too i think.

I live on a lake. And I see so many pregnant women swimming plus I am 23 weeks and I do it. So I don't think there is any worries.

Lakes carry all kinds of bacteria. My mom in 7th grade swam in a lake and got so sick she had to spend most of the summer in bed. You would be better to swim in a pool. Lakes usually have ducks in them and you would be swimming with all the duck poop.

Lakes, streams, rivers, and oceans are full of many kinds of bacterias that the chlorine in a pool would've killed.

I doubt that you'd have a problem, but there is a chance, and I definately wouldn't do it if you think you might be even *starting* to loose your plug.

The loss of that barrier could let all kinds of nasty stuff get up in there that could potentially reach the baby if your waters would rupture.

you know, I'm not a dr or anything, but I'm going to venture a guess at no. A pool is chlorinated so all of the germs are killed, but there could be a lot of bacteria in a late, and if you are that far along you may already be starting to dilate, which could introduce it into your body. I would stick on the safe side and just get your feet wet.

You can swim in the lake. I asked my doc when I was preg. She said it's okay. Don't drink the water and make sure to use sun screen. Stay cool

Personally I would avoid lakes, well I always have during pregnancy. Although I haven't heard anything either way. Pools have chlorine to kill any bad stuff that may be floating around and lakes don't have that.

Catching any kind of UTI or genitals infection might threaten the life of your baby during delivery. I would stay on the safe side and not go in the lake. You never know what bacteria you can catch there.

A womem changes chemicaly when you are pregnet and that means anything different could but not likely. A a swimming pool is better for you because it is cleaner.

i wouldn't, that area is more exposed during this time and lake water can lead to infection. most doc's recommend not to do it for a month after having the baby either.

This is what my doc said. I asked him the same thing.
