I'm sorry to see Fey go. Her writing has been about the only good thing on the show the last couple of years since Will Ferrel left.
Meanwhile, over the course of the series...
Eddie Murphy and Joe Pipscico saved it from obscurity in the mid-1980s. Then there was the "All Star" season when they hired BIlly Crystal and a couple of others for just one year ala the New York Yankess.
Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, and Phil Hartman made the 1990s.
But for my money, it has to be the original ensemble:
Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garret Morris, Bill Murray, Lorraine Newman. and Gilda Radner.
The show survived replacing Chase with Murray, but when Ackroyd and Belushi left...
Then again, unfortunately nothing lasts forever. :-(

My all time favorite cast member has got to be Will Ferrell. He could do anything and play anyone with no shame whatsoever. Especially liked the Jeopardy where Will played Alex Trebek and I cant remember who played Sean Connery but he gave him all kinds of crap. And I will definitly miss Tina Fey!!! The weekend update wont be the same without her.

I know that Tina is leaving to do her own show on NBC called 30 Rock, which I cant wait to see. As far as my fav. cast mate I would say Will Ferrell,, i love any of the Spichak commercials and may fav sketch is when any of them can't keep from laughing.

I loved the ones with Adam Sandler, Mike Meyers, Rob Schneider(the Rich man was my favorite character!), David Spade, and Chris Farley. Those were the days for me :) I love Will Ferrel's portrayal of James Lipton, and I really miss the college stoner sketches with Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz.

i'm greater new college than previous college (actually no longer an excellent fan of the "modern-day" college however). however, right this is my take. i've got divided my favorites into right here subcategories: Impersonators: suitable Male: Dana Carvey. From his George Bush to his Bob Dylan, he had such large administration of the mannerisms of the characters he became impersonating. Honorable point out is going to Darrel Hammond. suitable female: Amy Poehler. Her effect of a touch baby is hilariously ineffective on and her "Ozzie" spouse interpretation is large as nicely. Weekend replace: suitable Male: i pass for a tie between Dan Ackroyd and Norm MacDonald. the two are underappreciated Weekend Updaters interior the shadows of Dennis Miller and Jimmy Fallon. suitable female: Tina Fey. Jane Curtis does not have the caustic wit that makes me adore Tina. suitable Weekend replace "concentrated visitor:: Adam Sandler. 5 words: Opera guy making a music Pearl Jam. comedian strip: suitable Male: Mike Myers/Jimmy Fallon. humorous stuff from the two considered one of them. suitable female: Cheri O'teri incorporates my ideas.
