The test is long and draining. By far the essays are the worst part because it is hard to prep for them. Other than that, the test wasnt to terrible. Its just like the big brother of the ACT and SAT. If you did fine on those, dont worry too much about the GRE. The best way to prepare is to go out and buy a prep book, make sure it one that comes with a CD that has practice test. Those practice tests are really want get you prepared for the real GRE. Take tests, lots and lots of tests.

Also, check to make sure that it is the General GRE that your school wants. Some schools want subject specific GREs.

I walked in & took it with no preparation. The level of difficulty was about the same as the SATs.

I last took it in 1996 -- I got 790, 740 and 700 (M, Q, V) in the three areas, so doubt that study would have helped.

it will take about 6 months to prepare thoroughly and the exam is not all that difficult
