The best player is by far Wilt Chamberlain.
Who scores 100 points in one game?
1) He was invited to 13 straight All-Star Games
2) Had a 30.1 career scorign avergae. Which would of been higher if he hadnt focused on assists in the tail end of his career
3) He holds 15 of the top 20 highest scoring performances
4) From '59-'60 - 65'-66' he was the scoring leader (or tied)
5) Won 2 NBA Championships and in one winning MVP('72)
6) Season MVP- 1960, '66, '67, '68
7) Rookie of the year- 1960
8) All Defensive First Team- 1972, '73

it's Wilt. He owns the record books.

He's been retired 33 years and still has more 60 point games than everyone else in the history of the NBA combined. (This was also true of 50 point games for about 20 years after he retired).

Greatest rebounder in the history of the game, by far. (Ilgauskas is taller, as is Yao, but they suck).

One of the two greatest defensive players of all time (along with Bill Russell), with no one else being close.

Only non-guard to ever lead the league in assists.

Averaged 46 min/game for his career, and averaged OVER 48 min/game in 1962 (sat out only 8 minutes during the entire season, result of being ejected...played every minute of every other game, including overtime minutes).

Wilt never played against high school kids once he got to the NBA.

Played against Hall of Famers Bill Russell, Willis Reed, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bob Lanier, Bob McAdoo, Dave Cowens, Walt Bellamy, Wes Unseld, Nate Thurmond, Bob Pettit, Elvin Hayes, Jerry Lucas, Dolph Schayes. And because there were fewer teams, he had to go against these guys a lot more than twice/year.

He played 142 games against Russell (including playoffs), averaging 28.7 pts and 28.7 rebounds per game.

Shaq is the only center playing today who's a definite Hall of Famer (Ben Wallace has NO chance). Also Tim Duncan will make the HOF, if we count him as a center.

Jordan didn't dominate the NBA until 1) Magic and Bird retired and 2) the league was watered down by some horrible expansion teams.

MAJ was the greatest player ever for a few reasons. He made stars of all those around him. He could take over at any time the Bulls needed a burst. He Had more drive to win than anyone that I have ever seen play any sport.(Lance Armstrong Has a similar will to win and compete). MAJ was not afraid for sports center to show him missing the game winning shot. He knew what motivated people around him to play at a higher level. He knew that if he failed that he would always have tomarrow night to make things right. Last but not least......Jordan knew of his greatness and he did care if another teammate scored 50 pts and the game winner. He was a fierce competitor in every aspect.

It's definitely Michael,as of know but you can see some talent from these young guys who are turning into superstars every game, like lebron James and Dwyane wade....both of them are going into the basketball hall of fame as one of the best players in the world, but why would you ask such a ridiculous question everyone knows it's Michael Jordan.

The best B-ball player ever would be Mr. Hanes. Not only does he where underwear that can get him upthere but also stays white even when he has skunk marks on his doories. Also he's da man that has his own shoes under his name, da man dat plays with bugs bunny, da man dat owns a basketball team, da man that has so many documentaries of him even though it shows the same clips of his lifetime in different movies. you know who i'm talking about. da man that showed the man in the mirror to shoot the rock who learned the moon walk. 6 rings all won because of him. Although you could argue Wilt or Russell, I'd say given his szie and ability to dominate a big man's game it has to be MJ. Six championships with the talent he had around him...come on, other than Pippen no one else is HOF calibre on da Bulls teams? Can you imagine if he had the Celtics 8-in-a-row or the Lakers' Showtime or the 1972 team lineup around him all those years in Chicago?

Arvydis Sabonis...prior to his NBA days when he was isolatedd from the world because he lived in the USSR, he was dominant. If you want to see how good he was, try and find some videos. He was a 7 footer, who could shoot like any guard in the NBA, bang in the post with anyone because of his bulk, and was easily the best ball handler of anyone over 6'9". Sabonis was the best, but nobody knows it.
